Milltown, from the Irish meaning “town of the mill”, is a small town located in heart of Kerry between Tralee and Killarney.
The area is popular with bird watchers all year round with a number of protected habitats from bog land to marshland.
The area is also popular with cyclists and walkers, with numerous attractive routes to choose from in the vicinity.
A neothilic tomb near Milltown was excavated in 2015, with human remains uncovered that could potentially be 6,000 years old.
Much of land surrounding Milltown was owned by the nearby Killagha Abbey between the 13th and 16th centuries. The ruins of the Abbey are found just outside the town.
The Milltown Halt railway station was in operation from November 1886 until February 1960.
