Cromane is a fishing village, located a short drive off the main Ring of Kerry Road in Mid Kerry.
The name Cromane (An Cromán) means hip bone as the shingle spit on which it’s located is shaped like a hip when looking at it on a map.
Given Cromane’s unique geographical location, the Brandon Mountain Range, Sliabh Mish Mountains and the McGillycuddy Reeks can all be seen from here.
Cromane’s coastline is a fishing and nature conservation area, with the Harbour and its Salt Marches being one of the most important sites for wintering waterbirds in the southwest.
Cromane is famous for Mussels & Oysters and is one of the few remaining areas in Ireland where Salmon drift-netting is permitted.
Cromane has a rowing club, which has been in operation since 1956.
Dooks Golf Club, one of Ireland’s oldest, is only short drive down the road.
