The small village of Ahakista is situated in the centre of ‘Sheep’s Head’ peninsula.
Many fishing and pleasure boats operate from the pier in the harbour.
The ‘Sheep’s Head Way‘ walk and cycling route pass by Ahakista, this 55-mile route has beautiful views along its varying terrain.

The mid-air bombing of the Air India plane resulted in the deaths of over 300 people, with the remains of the plane landing in the ocean approx. 120 miles (190 km) off West Cork.
There is a stone circle in the area that dates from the Bronze Age (2200 – 600 B.C.).
