Glencar Lake, meaning “lake of the glen of the pillar stone”, is a freshwater lake mainly in County Leitrim, with a smaller part in County Sligo.

The lake is primarily fed by Glencar Waterfall, which is located near the lake’s north shore.

The impressive Glencar Waterfall is approx. 50 feet high and is reached by a wooded walk, with a tourist information point, children’s playground, picnic area, and a cafe nearby.

Salmon and brown trout are among the fish in the lake, while a number of migratory birds spend their winter at the lake.
