Goleen is a small village on the south-western tip of West Cork, close to Mizen Head.
The village has a large Catholic church, which was built shortly after the famine in the 1850s, with the help of donations by Irish emigrants.
There was also a Church of Ireland church situated just outside the village, but this is now the site for a sail-maker.
A visit to the nearby Mizen Head Signal Station is well worth your time, with a footbridge crossing a gorge above the Atlantic Ocean.
