Westport, from the Irish meaning “stone fort of the beeves”, is a beautiful town in West Mayo located on the corner of Clew Bay.
The town originates and gets its name, in Irish, from a 16th-century castle.
One of the few planned towns in the Country, Westport was designed in the 18th Century by William Leeson.
The famous pilgrimage mountain of Croagh Patrick, which can be seen overlooking the town, lies 10 km west of the town.
Westport House and its adjoining Adventure Park combine to create a stunning combination of culture, fun, and adventure for all the family.
Westport is a leading sea angling centre and boats may be hired to test the rich fishing grounds in the Bay.
There are numerous activities to enjoy, such as horse riding and pony trekking, clay pigeon shooting, paintballing, hill walking, sailing, and golf.
There is a wide selection of sandy beaches to choose from on the North and South shores of Clew Bay.
There are also many festivals and events held in and around Westport each year.
