Loughill is located on the Shannon Estuary, where the Owvaun/White River meets the Estuary.

Settlement in Loughill dates back to the 12th century, with a history that has seen an ironworks in the area, where the timber from the area was converted into charcoal for the smelting of iron ore.

In 2019, the village opened the excellent Abha Bhán Parish Park, complete with children’s playground, walking track, floodlit Astro pitch, and sensory garden.

The Owvaun/ White River is also a popular fishing river.
