Salthill is situated on the northern inner shore of Galway Bay.
The Aran Islands are visible to the right and Galway City to the left. Directly across Galway Bay is the Burren and to the west are the bogs and mountains of Connemara.
There is a 2 km long promenade, locally known as the Prom, overlooking Galway Bay.
Salthill was, until 2007, home to one of the biggest non-fee paying air shows in Ireland, the Salthill Air Show.
