The Queen Maeve trail takes walkers up the northern slopes of Knocknarea, past Megalithic and Bronze Age remains, on through Coillte forests along a raised boardwalk or ‘bog bridge’ to the summit.

Along the route are abandoned and derelict stone cottages, with stories to tell.

On a clear day, from the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views stretching as far as Nephin in Mayo and Slieve League sea cliffs in Donegal.

In Irish mythology, Knocknarea is the burial place of the beautiful Warrior Queen Maeve of Connaught.
